Lucknow: Nutritious diet plays key role in recovery for tuberculosis patients. This was underlined at a one-day continuing medical education programme on ‘Nutrition Matters: Strengthening Immunity in TB Patients’, at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences on Saturday. Speakers highlighted that combining proper medication with adequate nutrition reduced severity and improved outcomes. Chief guest RMLIMS director Prof C M Singh, said, “TB and malnutrition form a vicious cycle and if nutrition is not proper, recovery is delayed. We used to distribute nutrition packets, which is now taken care of by those who adopt patients. Awareness remains crucial.”Principal and Dean of Hind Institute of Medical Sciences, Ataria, Prof N S Verma, said, “Malnutrition is prevalent but correct figures don’t come to light. Malnutrition weakens immunity and makes populations vulnerable to TB.” Presiding over the event, head of respiratory medicine, RMLIMS, Prof Ajay Kumar Verma, said, “This platform helps us connect clinical care with dietary support as both are inseparable in TB management.“
