SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Some in Sioux Falls on Saturday slipped on their dance shoes, while at the same time learning important health lessons.
“Plie with Purpose” is meant to get friends and family moving, while at the same time educating them on breast health and screenings.
The event is a collaboration between Avera Health and Balleraena Dance Studio on South Louise Avenue, about the importance of yearly mammograms and cancer prevention.
“We know that women who get their mammograms are able to identify cancers when they’re earlier, which has an improved survival. As well as if you do develop a cancer, we don’t have to do as aggressive of treatment, just because it’s found when it’s smaller,” said Avera Health Breast Surgeon Dr. Nara Judd.
While the ballet class was beginner-friendly, Avera is hoping that those in attendance have leveled up their knowledge of breast health.
